• Forest Stewardship Project Director

Become a force for nature and a healthy planet by joining the Arizona Chapter as Forest Stewardship Project Director. You will play a key role in achieving the Chapters goal to accelerate the pace and scale of forest restoration in the Four Forest Restoration Initiative in northern Arizona. The position is based in Flagstaff, AZ and will work with diverse internal and external teams to implement a 20,000-acre Stewardship Agreement with the U.S. Forest Service. The agreement aims to accelerate the pace of restoration through strategic partnerships with the agency and industry, integration of new technology, and modernization of agency guidelines.
The backdrop for the project is a 2.4 million-acre forested landscape in urgent need of restoration and broad public support to thin the forests and reduce the risk of catastrophic fire. A partnership with industry is essential to accelerating restoration, but success will require that we streamline agency practices and reduce costs associated with forest thinning. The positions primary opportunity is to work with the agency and industry to foster innovation. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with the agencys approach to forest management combined with a passion to help the agency facilitate the change management necessary to succeed in the nations largest forest restoration initiative.

QUALIFICATIONS
BA/BS degree and 7 years experience in forestry sector, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience negotiating in a dynamic environment, managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners, in partnership development with government agencies, business/industry, non-profit partners, and stakeholders. Inclusive leadership skills and experience managing teams with a commitment to respecting team dynamics, and a strong ability to understand and credit diverse perspectives, and synthesize multiple perspectives to achieve the best outcome. Valid drivers license.
Preferred qualifications include a drive to work in a collaborative environment with a diverse spectrum of stakeholders to solve organizational and economic challenges and successfully facilitate change management. Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing policy and practice. Institutional savvy to navigate environment with complex drivers and levers. Multi-cultural, multi-lingual, cross cultural experience and background an asset. Knowledge of current trends and practices within forest industry and federal/state agencies. Ability to develop practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations to achieve project goals. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
