High Country News seeks a dynamic and creative person to help grow our subscribers and donors. Our future digital marketer will have proven experience in marketing, digital engagement strategies and the creation of web and email campaigns. A love of the West is a must. General Statement of Duties: Plans and implements marketing strategies to grow and maintain High Country News' community of readers, working to convert online audiences into subscribers and donors. Manages all aspects of HCN's syndication services and HCNU's classroom distribution program.

Reports to Director of Engagement

Example of Duties:

Subscription Marketing:
a. Creates and implements campaigns to increase and maintain HCN's paying subscribers, working with relevant staff on marketing creatives and campaigns.
b. Plans and implements online renewal campaigns to nurture current subscriber base.
c. Manages subscriptions marketing emails targeting potential subscribers, from conception and creation to deployment and analysis.
d. Works to enhance performance of subscriber retention efforts through email channels.
e. Manages marketing campaign calendar; coordinates campaigns with Engagement Director.
f. Evaluates ROI and performance of subscription campaigns. Analyzes results and plans improvements for future strategies.
g. Develops creative strategies to target new online subscriber groups.

Development Marketing:
a. Collaborates on development campaign messaging and aids in online fundraising campaigns.
b. Manages development emails targeting potential donors, from conception and creation to deployment and analysis.
c. Evaluates ROI and performance of development campaigns. Analyzes results and plans improvements for future strategies.
Syndication Marketing
a. Manages syndication outreach, including weekly email feeds.
b. Works with editors to provide requested content.

HCNU Marketing:
a. Manages program recruitment and outreach, including bi-weekly emails.
b. Works with instructors to provide assistant and/or requested content.

General Marketing:
a. Works with marketing team to develop annual marketing plan.
b. Participates in marketing meetings, contributing to strategy and action items as needed.
c. Manages HCN's bookstore distribution program.
d. Researches marketing trends and new revenue strategies.
e. Assists with HCN events, including planning, attending and promotion.
f. Creates reports as requested and for board meetings.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
a. Understanding of the High Country News product and ability to represent it to current and potential consumers.
b. Proven record of converting and retaining paying customers.
c. Ability to create and design digital marketing campaigns, including some knowledge of graphic and web design.
d. Solid statistical analysis skills, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
e. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, publisher, advertisers, subscribers, Board members, vendors, representatives of other organizations and the general public.
f. Knowledge of computing, including email marketing platforms, internet and direct marketing, spreadsheets, word processing, and desktop/website publishing.
g. A passion for the American West.

SKILLED IN:
a. Email Marketing - Ability to build design & deliver creative emails to generate sales and donations.
b. Analytics - Ability to analyze campaign results and present them in a visual format.
c. Design - Ability to communicate ideas effectively through graphic design.
d. Social Media Marketing - An understanding of how to build brand, generate leads & aggregate audiences on social media.
f. Inbound Marketing - Understanding of how to attract & convert customers using content marketing strategies.
g. Google AdWords - Knowledge of using the platform to create ads and manage online campaigns to generate website traffic and leads.

Education:
Undergraduate degree in marketing preferred. Business, design or other related field, considered.

Experience:
Five years experience marketing in the media industry. Related business experience considered.
