• Development Assistant

High Country News seeks a development assistant to assist with fundraising campaigns. HCN is an award-winning, national news magazine. Strong candidates will have experience administering monthly-giving programs, communicating with donors, and working with complex databases. This is a full-time, hourly wage position with benefits.

General Statement of Duties: Assists the development director and major gifts adviser with fundraising activities

Supervision Exercised: None

Supervision Received: Works under the general direction of the development director

Example of Duties: The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive

-Administers the monthly-giving program, including transaction management, donor correspondence (problem solving and year-end tax receipts) and data management.
-Processes donations (sorts and codes mail, enters donation data in First Edition, updates donor data, sends thank-you's).
-Assists with coordinating and fundraising campaigns and events, including preparing donor lists, invitations, event details, and schedules.
-Prepares donor names to be printed in the news magazine's donor acknowledgment pages.


Special Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

-Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
-Strong computer skills, including experience with Word and Excel, and database use.
-Ability to learn quickly, attention to detail and self-starter.
-Ability to keep effective working relationships with supervisor, colleagues, donors, and the public.

Education: Minimum high school diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of two years office/clerical experience, or any other combination of education and experience. Customer service or development experience helpful.

Working Hours: This is a non-exempt, hourly-wage position, up to 40 hours/week. Part-time applicants will be considered.
