• Aravaipa Land Steward

The Aravaipa Land Steward coordinates preserve stewardship work and general operations including maintenance and general preserve management. Implements preserve management plans, which may include species monitoring and research, exotic species control, prescribed burning, boundary posting, preserve building maintenance, trail and/or equipment maintenance, field trips and volunteer stewardship workdays. Maintains database for monitoring information such as stream flow, rare species, and precipitation. May create and compile GIS information and databases for the Aravaipa watershed and greater Galiuro Mountain complex. May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain. Works under physically demanding circumstances.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain.
Requires long hours in isolated settings.
Makes day-to-day decisions as delegated by supervisor.
May work under infrequent supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED and 1 year of training in science-related field or related experience in land management including building construction and/or maintenance.
Ability and/or experience in operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g., lawn mower, chainsaw, tractor, two-way radio, GPS device, etc.).
Must be able to obtain related licenses and/or certifications as required (e.g., First Aid, CPR, herbicide application, firefighting, etc.).
Valid driver's license.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Associates or Bachelor of Science degree in related field.
1 - 2 years' experience related to farming and ranching.
1 - 2 years' experience in landscaping and building maintenance to include trouble-shooting and solving simple electrical and plumbing issues.
Ability to recognize plant and animal species to complete preserve management activities.
Ability to independently manage time and diverse activities under deadlines while delivering quality results.
Experience with mobile devices and PCs, including database knowledge.
Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
