• High Country News Seeks Accounts & Office Assistant

General Statement of Duties: Serves as an assistant in the accounts department, primarily responsible for accounts receivable and income reconciliation; and providing general office support. Works under the general supervision of the Accountant. Candidates should send a resume and cover letter to Erica Howard, Accountant at ericah@hcn.org. Starting salary $18 per hour.

Duties will include but are not limited to:
-Processes checks and credit card payments for accounts receivable and deposits checks/cash in the bank
-Raises invoices for advertising and syndication billing
-Reconciles batch log of receipts to bank statements and enters receipts to Quickbooks
-Reconciles receipts in PayPal and enters to Quickbooks
-Collections for accounts receivable
-Orders office supplies
-Schedules annual and other maintenance/repairs for company vehicles; assists with checking cars in and out
-Assists with any office and building maintenance requests as needed
-Mails out vendor payments and files paperwork
-Enters other data including postage allocations into Quickbooks
-Provides occasional cover for the -Accountant which may include payroll processing and bills payment
-Assists other departments with clerical/data entry tasks from time to time
-Other duties as assigned by the Accountant

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
-Ability to accurately input data and meet deadlines. Good organizational and reconciliation skills. Excellent communication skills, person-to-person, by telephone and by correspondence.
-Desire to work in a not-for-profit environment and willingness to support the needs of the organization.

Education and Experience:
A background in accounts or office administration with relevant experience or recent business related qualification is essential. Must be able to demonstrate strong IT skills including database entry/information retrieval, Microsoft Office applications and e-mail. Knowledge of Quickbooks is an advantage.

Working Hours:
This is a non-exempt, hourly paid position requiring some flexibility to meet workloads. Up to 15 hours per week to include a minimum of 3 hours on Mondays.
